The faculty and staff of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment. As members of a land–grant institution, we strive to uphold Iowa State University’s Principles of Community and agree with the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications that “the professions of journalism and mass communications should understand and reflect the diversity and complexity of people, perspectives and beliefs in a global society and in the multicultural

We seek to maintain an inclusive curriculum, a diverse faculty and student population, and a welcoming, supportive and celebratory climate that serves all students and equips them to meet the professional demand for culturally competent communicators. This requires knowing how to relate to those qualities and conditions that are different from our own and outside the groups to which we belong yet are present in other individuals and groups. These include but are not limited to age, ethnicity, class, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race, sexual orientation, as well as religious status, gender expression, educational background, geographical location, income, marital status, parental status, and work experiences.
