The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University has named Rick Phillips the recipient of its 2020 James W. Schwartz Award. The annual award recognizes distinguished service to journalism and communication and is the highest honor conferred by the school.
Shannon Latham (’93 agricultural journalism, public service & administration in agriculture) is the recipient of the 2020 Greenlee Professional Achievement Award, and Kacey Birchmier (’11 journalism) is the recipient of the 2020 Greenlee Young Alumni Award.

Kim Guthrie (’84 journalism), president of Cox Media Group, has been named the recipient of the 2019 James W. Schwartz Award. The annual award recognizes distinguished service to journalism and communication and is the highest honor conferred by Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication.
Giles Fowler, who taught at the Greenlee School from 1982-2002, died Nov. 3. A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. in Ames. It will be followed by a reception with refreshments at the church. There will also be a drinks and appetizer gathering the night before. See obituary for more details.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Iowa State University Alumni Association presented awards to Dave Kurns, the late Henry Ong, Art Slusark and Dan Winters during Homecoming Week. Bill Tubbs received Greenlee’s Schwartz Award and Jen Sorenson was recognized by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
ISU alumni Doug and Karen Jeske were presented with the 2018 Order of the Knoll Emerging Philanthropist Award. Doug holds a degree in agricultural journalism and is a member of the Greenlee School Advisory Council.
