Bio

Aleks is the executive vice president of IREX, a nonprofit that works in 40 countries across the world to support independent media, strengthen education systems and cultivate leaders. He has led and advised public institutions, foundations and private-sector organizations on major initiatives to foster vibrant information, support media and internet freedom, as well as good governance, institutional and policy reforms in transitioning economies and in the Global South. His recent work at IREX has focused on strengthening the health of information ecosystems by increasing citizen demand for vibrant information and building durable skills to consume information critically. Aleks has worked in Italy, Kosovo, Paraguay, Kyrgyzstan and Cambodia, among others. An active public speaker in high-profile forums, he has also published opinion pieces and commentary on promoting independent media, fighting fake news, promoting good governance and fighting corruption, and has been interviewed by media outlets including the BBC and the Voice of America. He has a master’s degree from Columbia University in New York and a juris doctor degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
